TIME AND PLACE

Archives

One cold dark evening in what is already seeming like a long-ago and far-away place. More Icebergs and the spot where southern Greenland’s most active glacier pours into the sea.

Forgive the lack of order in when these little stories and albums were posted. So much depended on when I could get photos sorted and had time to post. Just enjoy. We’ve crossed the mountains from Neset Camping today, down to Lysefjord, then up and over to this small oil-based city on Norway’s west coast. Stavanger, where around 872 King Harold finally planted his sword after many bloody battles and declared Norway united…. Read More

Those Vikings were everywhere… Right now it is a cloudy day in a cozy log cabin in Neset, Norway. Teresa is hiking the mountain and I’m gazing at the lake called Byglandsfiord. I want to post the rest of my Greenland albums while here at Neset Camping…so I can move on to talk about my very own Norwegian cousins and the North Country in general and end up in swinging London—or is… Read More

Greenland will be in my heart and mind and posts for days to come so enjoy…

There are many people and actions and events in my life for which I am grateful; I have mostly tried to be a decent human being and I have been very fortunate in family, friends, jobs and health. That being said…there are also a handful of personal achievements that I take most (although certainly not all) of the credit for dreaming up and making happen. TREKKING IN GREENLAND is one of those…. Read More

I began preparing for the first of two consequential 2016 trips this morning. I used ‘big’ for the 2015 adventure—time to expand my vocabulary—’consequential,’ meaning trips lasting over two weeks. The reason I am preparing for May 2016 is because I did not feel immediately perfect upon getting up at 7am and because it made me tired to walk 1 1/2 hours. This is the last slow weekend before writing classes start… Read More

So soon. The routine. Did that other thing really happen? Did I really do that? Go around the world. Was it a long time ago? No? A few days ago you say…I’m already forgetting. I did. Go around the world. It was—in today’s vernacular—awesome. Actually it was just plain awesome. But when I started to catch up on diary entries for those days and weeks away they had already slipped into past tense,… Read More

I arrived home one week ago and the Big Adventure is rapidly fading into history. It would not be fair however to leave my last stop, Seoul, out of the photo lineup—since it is truly an inviting city. Seoul was unfortunately a 24-hour stopover and I probably wouldn’t have made good use of any more days even if I had stayed longer—it was time to come home. However if/when I’m out Asia way… Read More

This post was begun on September 10th, already five days in the past. (If only my body would acknowledge that I’ve moved on to a different time zone I would be a very very happy person.)  The ferry ride, 26 hours across the Yellow Sea, was a perfect microcosm of most travel experiences. A mix of dismay, disappointment, discovery, and delight as it’s happening; hindsight that identifies it as one of the… Read More
