“If you must have motivation, think of your paycheck on Friday.” Noel Coward said that. I’m lucky I suppose. It was never my paycheck that inspired me to go to work; most of the time I found great satisfaction in what I was doing (although of course the paycheck had to be there when all was said and done), always in a creative arena or offering small supports for lives in trouble. Now… Read More
This post is about Work. All work but mostly my work. I looked up some work quotes to enjoy. The beginning is the most important part of work. Plato I have realized how much I like to work…not puttering about the house, raking the leaves, or making better lunches. Not that those aren’t good pursuits, but for me they are vastly more enjoyable when you must do them after work (the paid/’gotta… Read More
On our summer vacation, Celia, Sara and I were scheduled to be in Kruger National Park in South Africa yesterday. At least we were in Plan A. I think that had changed to Lilongwe, Malawi in Plan B. However, as you all know the world has reverted to Plan X…so instead I went to MVD NOW to renew my driver’s license.
Yesterday’s post was all about my need for rain. So it rained last night…that was after I ran naked and screaming ‘let there be rain’ through the streets, in and out of the traffic, into the gas station for a Twinkie…up Eubank to Montgomery…knocked on Scarpa’s door for a take-out pizza (which got all soggy on the way home). Maybe I didn’t do that. But it did rain. I couldn’t find just… Read More
More time on bosque walks. Many delicious quotes and poems. Many photos. Many miles. Another morning in the woods tomorrow. This pathway through the pandemic. “With the first step, the number of shapes the walk might take is infinite, but then the walk begins to define itself as it goes along, though freedom remains total with each step: any tempting side road can be turned into an impulse, or any wild patch of woods… Read More
Is there anybody doesn’t love a snow day? All of our lives don’t we long for that magical moment when we were/are told the weather was/is too bad to go to school…or work…or the store even. Snow days are different than sick days or vacation days or holidays. Snow days are bonuses. In fact yesterday, when I informed our employees that we were closing today because of blizzard warnings, the exclamations of… Read More
So many choices for Christmas trees in our Minnesota woods. We always celebrated on Christmas Eve when I was a kid. Mom made lefse and we put up the tree…cut that very day in our woods. We had ham with pineapple and sausages and sweet potatoes on top for supper. Then Mom read the story of the baby in the manger from the bible and we opened presents. When I was very… Read More
I did it…No, not the 26 mile long real marathon…but close. The 10K walk. Close enough. I’m even a little bit proud of the results. Out of 95 10K walkers I was 62…and only two people were older than me and they both were faster…two old guys…I may have to have them disappeared before next year. Come to think of it, at our age we really don’t need much assistance to ‘disappear.’… Read More
