BESIDES THE APOCALYPSE, THERE’S OLD AGE TO CONSIDER

Posted May 24, 2023: Twenty twenty-three has been a good-enough year so far. Speaking for myself and my small world of course. I have numerous agreeable occurrences and happy happenstances to share—some darn near heartwarming in fact.

First though, let me dampen any expectations that I’m turning into a sweet positive little old lady (as my children had hoped), losing my cranky crone along the way. No. In fact, that cloud of sadness hovering just overhead concerning the state of our world always shares space these days with its sister, the cloud of old age. Cranky-making conditions that.

Who knew old veins become fat black worms crawling about beneath your skin!

A year or so ago I wrote about the book Weather, the story of a woman’s struggle to live her everyday life with its attendant joys and sorrows accompanied by the ever-present reality of climate change altering and/or ending life as we know it. Yeah, that cloud. A long time ago, the Li’l Abner cartoon strip had a character with a dark rain cloud always overhead and Snoopy’s Pigpen had his dust cloud, and now I have my two clouds. As I proceed with the jolly stories of 2023 to date, a drop of rain or handful of dust may occasionally (rarely one hopes) sprinkle/drift down upon you.

Meanwhile life plods, stumbles, marches, skips forward.

The New and Better than ever…CHRISTMAS TREE. it’s the thought that counts. Small, quiet, burned barbecue for dinner…but somehow it was really nice.

January, February N4th Gallery show with Tamara Zibners. A fine way to begin the work year.
