A Day Off. In ALBUQUERQUE. In January. Of 2017.

Consider this a blog-post-diary entry or just my oversharing of Me Today. Isn’t that what we do in diaries/journals? Overshare? Is that what tweeting is? If you put all of the shyster’s tweets together would that reveal his soul? It’s publishable I think…a book of shyster tweets. But for many of his followers it would be the first book they’ve ever bought and read…but at least there won’t be any big words…And they probably won’t notice the 3rd grade spelling. ‘So sad,’ he could say, ‘why I’ve done better tweets than that. The left-wing media hasn’t shared my really good ones. They’re the best, better than any other tweets, better than Meryl’s tweets.’

Sorry, this is what the prospect of a whole workday at home in front of my writing machine does to me. This post is actually intended to serve more than one function.  Firstly, it is the almost-final journal-entry for the blog-book, Time and Place 2015-16. There will be two more essay-like posts included before it goes to the publisher: 1) an introduction allowing me to wax the tiniest bit lyrical on the wonders of my 2015 rail journey across Eurasia and my 2016 adventure in Greenland and visits in Norway; 2) An epilogue to be written after the Women’s March on Washington DC on January 21st. Secondly, to offer my last photo album of regular Albuquerque life going on this late fall/early winter of 2016-17 even as the world seemed to crumble there for a long dark moment. My ringtone is Joan Baez’s We Shall Overcome reminding me that…well…we shall overcome.

I HAD ONE MAC AND CHEESE (WITH TRUFFLE OIL OF COURSE) AND TWO WINES. EXCELLENT CHOICE.

NEW YEAR’S EVE. NOON-2PM, DECEMBER 31, 2016. LET ME EXPLAIN. I don’t know anyone that actually stays up until midnight Albuquerque time anymore. So we found out where it was New Year’s eve at the time we wanted to drink our champagne and get 2016 over with….That would be the Middle East. So we celebrated with Abu Dhabi and and Riyadh and Muscat and Kabul and Yekaterinburg. Robert was sent on a mission to find foods from that part of the world that required no cooking. He did really great…see below…except that he forgot to look at the expiration dates and some of the items had been at the little Middle Eastern grocers for some years. We did not open the eight-years-past-expiration-date cheese from Saudi Arabia for example. But it was a lovely celebration. AND GOODBYE TO YOU 2016.

HERE’S TO 2017…”WE SHALL OVERCOME…”

  1. What a great idea to celebrate with foods from wherever it is midnight at your local time. Too bad you did not stay up for midnight in France, that would be great food to celebrate with. So glad you checked the expiration dates, this could have been your last NYE! Looks like everyone had a great time…I went to bed around 11pm…
